Extra care development in Aberaman reaches exciting milestone

Linc is working with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and F1 Modular Limited (F1M) to build the 40-apartment extra care scheme in Aberaman.

Extra care provides the opportunity for people to live as active and as independent lives as possible, living in their own homes with support tailored to their individual needs.

The extra care apartments are being built using an innovative building technique. Modular construction is where multiple high quality, energy efficient sections or boxes, known as modules, are joined together on site. Each module is manufactured in a factory before being transported to the building site.

“We’re thrilled to be working alongside F1M and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to develop an extra care scheme that meets the needs of local people.

Using modular build, we can develop high quality homes at a quicker rate than using traditional building methods. We’re excited to see the first of the modules go up and for local residents to see this new scheme start to take shape.”

The Aberaman site is beginning to transform as 49 modules have been delivered to site and are currently being installed. There will be 94 modules in total.

F1M is a leading off-site modular construction business, delivering high quality and energy efficient property solutions including affordable housing, extra care accommodation, school classrooms, hotels and retail units.

Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services & the Welsh Language, added:

“The completion of Phase 1 of this scheme is an important milestone in the delivery of modern care facilities that will, once complete, more appropriately meet the changing demands for current and future generations in the northern Cynon Valley.
