Construction Phase of New Cardiff Housing Development Underway

Developments
A NEW DEVELOPMENT in Llanishen, Cardiff, will see the creation of 121 affordable homes.

Linc Cymru (Linc) is working in partnership with Welsh Government and Cardiff Council to develop the homes. The site, on Malvern Drive, is a development of nine houses and two apartment blocks, including one for over 55s.

The construction phase is now well underway. WRW Construction, the contractors on the build, broke ground on site in July and foundation works are almost complete, a significant milestone.

To mark this occasion, representatives from Linc, WRW Construction, Cardiff Council, Welsh Government, and Quin & Co attended the site to see the foundations of the new homes. Those attending the event took the opportunity to view the plans for the development, for which planning permission was granted at the end of March 2019.

With the development due for completion in early 2021, the homes are part of Linc’s commitment to addressing the growing demand for housing across South Wales, with plans to build 1,700 new homes by 2026.

Louise Attwood, Executive Director of Property, Linc said:

“I am thrilled that this exciting new development is now well underway, to see the foundations in place marks a significant milestone in the build.

At Linc we’ve set ourselves an ambitious development target for the coming years and are looking forward to working alongside Welsh Government and Cardiff Council on future developments.

Providing high quality affordable homes is one of our key priorities and we’re committed to working collaboratively to provide homes that meet the needs of local communities.

I must thank WRW Construction and Quin & Co for working with us on this development, the progress that has been made so far is wonderful, and I look forward to visiting the site again when even more progress had been made.”

Huw Triggs, WRW Construction Operations Manager, said:

“We are delighted to be delivering this exciting development alongside Linc-Cymru, the Welsh Government and Cardiff County Council.

We have made a great start to the project and works are being completed to the anticipated timescales as planned.

The high quality, modern and prominent design will be consistent with the surrounding area and will be an excellent addition to the City.

We will continue to actively engage with businesses and the local community as part of a localised plan to ensure that opportunities are being brought to the area.

This fantastic scheme is another step towards meeting the demand for affordable housing within Cardiff and we look forward to its opening in 2021.”
