100th Birthday Celebration at Glyn Anwen
Connie Baulch was born in Lambert Street in Barrack Hill on 1st March 1925. She moved to our scheme in 2022.
An Elvis impersonator entertained Connie and her party guests last Saturday afternoon, singing hits from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Jennifer Fairfax, her daughter, said: “She met my father, Ray, while they were working on the buses in around 1945. She was a clippie and he was a driver. She always jokes that he used to drive too fast.”
The couple lived in Malpas and married in Shaftesbury Methodist Church in 1947. They had two children, John and Jennifer. John passed away in 2011 aged 63, and Ray passed away in 2001, aged 86.
Connie has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jennifer said: “My mum and dad used to love going on holiday in the UK and abroad. My mum also worked in British Homes Stores on Commercial Street in the city centre during the 1960s.
“She made lifelong friends while working there and it was lovely to see some of them at her party.
“My mum has always been great fun. After leaving school she worked at Miss Winnie Day’s shop at the bottom of Brynglas Road. She ran a well-known fruit shop and used to hold themed parties for friends in the Rising Sun on Shaftesbury Street.
“They used to have them in the upstairs function room and it became known as the ‘Miss Days' club. They had so many memorable nights where they would dress up.
“She was also a member and treasurer of Crindau Old Girls’ club. They enjoyed day trips, and parties at Easter and Christmas and parties throughout the year.”
Sally Wills, Linc Cymru’s Area Service Manager, said: “Connie is a real star here at Glyn Anwen.
“It was a pleasure to help her celebrate such a special day. Elvis got Connie and her guests tapping their feet and singing along to his hits.”
