Cabinet Members visit Mountain Ash care development site
This important development is a joint project between Linc Cymru (Linc) and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and will provide 25 Extra Care apartments, 15 dementia residential care beds, and eight ‘Later Living’ bungalows. Planning consent has been secured, and the initial land preparation works, being carried out by JG Hale Group, continue throughout March 2025.
On Thursday, March 13, Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, and Councillor Gareth Caple, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, visited the site to see the progress being made. Representatives from Linc joined them for the visit, where they were given a tour of the site by the appointed contractor.
Councillor Gareth Caple said: “Visiting the site was a fantastic opportunity to see the first stage of works to transform the area into a modern, first-class care facility. The mix of Extra Care, dementia, and ‘Later Living’ accommodation will fulfil a local need and is another example of our commitment to expanding and modernising care options for older people.”
Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE added: “As the Local Member for Mountain Ash, it’s great to see this work progressing well – the first step towards revitalising the former pavilion site. Providing new care accommodation will meet a local demand in the Cynon Valley while bringing the site back into use. The new Extra Care housing that we have delivered to date has proven very popular, and we look forward to seeing this development become a valued community hub.”
The Council and Linc have worked in partnership since 2017 to deliver Extra Care housing schemes across Rhondda Cynon Taf, with the agreement extended until January 2026. Following successful schemes in Aberaman and Graig, and the ongoing project in Porth, the Mountain Ash development marks the fourth scheme in this collaboration.
Jo Yellen, Project Manager at Linc Cymru, said: “It’s fantastic to see work progressing on site, marking an important step towards delivering much-needed extra care accommodation in Mountain Ash. This development will provide high-quality homes that help older people live independently, with care and support available when needed. We’re proud to be working with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to create a welcoming community that meets the needs of local residents, and we look forward to seeing it take shape in the coming months.”
