Construction of new extra care housing in Porth makes great progress
Delivered in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and built by Intelle Construction, the project is transforming the site of the former Dan y Mynydd Care Home into a modern, welcoming place to live.
The four-storey development will include a dining area, hair salon, activity room and day care centre – all designed to encourage social connection and support independent living.
Over the summer, the project has reached several key milestones. The building’s roof has been completed, scaffolding removed, and much of the exterior brickwork, windows and balconies are now in place. Inside, lift and kitchen installations are underway, decoration has started, and external works such as the new National Grid substation and groundworks are progressing well.
The development remains on track for completion in spring 2026.
Jo Yellen, Projects Manager at Linc Cymru, said:
"Seeing the building really take shape over the past few months has been fantastic. With the roof now complete, scaffolding removed, and key internal works well underway, you can really get a sense of the quality of the spaces we’re creating. Each milestone brings us closer to delivering a modern, welcoming environment that will make a real difference for older people in Porth."
Councillor Gareth Caple, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, added:
“It’s fantastic to see the continued progress towards delivering this exciting development in Porth, which is on course for completion next spring. It’s the latest example of the Council’s commitment to modernising care accommodation for older people and increasing the number of extra care beds to meet local need.”
The Porth development is the latest project in our ongoing partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, creating high-quality homes that support independence, wellbeing and community connections for older people across the region.
