Linc begins work with tourism sector to provide respite for carers

A new project to provide short breaks for carers has been set up in South Wales.

Linc are working with Swansea University and Bridgend Council to bring together the tourism and social care sectors in Wales.

The ‘Stay Well Network’ aims to establish a register of supported short break holidays, including hotels and holiday homes, that can provide accessible accommodation for carers and their families.

These short breaks ensure that carers and those they care for, can enjoy a period of respite to prioritise their wellbeing.

As part of this project, Linc will be providing accommodation for people with care needs and are working with Visit Wales to encourage more accommodation providers to join the network.

David Chinnick, Independent Living Manager at Linc said:

“We’re proud to be leading on the ‘Stay Well Network’ and hope that it becomes an alternative model for respite care in Wales.

By creating a link between the tourism sector and housing and care providers, we can create opportunities for carers to enjoy a well-deserved holiday.”
