Planning granted for new extra care scheme in RCT

Linc Cymru (Linc) are working with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to significantly increase the amount of extra care accommodation in the county.

Extra care gives people the opportunity to live independently in their own homes, with access to support that is tailored to their needs.

The scheme will include a hair salon and space for socialising and will be an attractive addition to the area.

Catherine Divers, Head of Independent Living at Linc said:

“We’re excited to have received planning permission to build on the site of the old Magistrates Court in Pontypridd.

Extra care provides the opportunity for people to live as active and as independent lives as possible, and we’re looking forward to providing more high-quality extra care homes in the area.”

Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Community Services and Welsh Language said:

“It is fantastic news that planning permission has now been granted for a new extra care scheme in Pontypridd, representing the latest milestone for the proposed £50m investment in these excellent facilities right across Rhondda Cynon Taf. Cabinet gave its support for this proposed investment during September 2017, to create 300 extra care places in several brand-new buildings.

The Pontypridd extra care facility will revitalise the former Magistrates’ Court site, which has excellent links to the Town Centre and public transport. It will also ensure 60 new extra care places are created in Rhondda Cynon Taf, to extend this tailored accommodation-based care provision to more residents. I’m looking forward to seeing this scheme progress further in the coming months.”

This is Linc’s second extra care development in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. A 40-apartment scheme is currently underway in Aberaman, you can read more about this scheme here.
