Pupils' posters displayed at Aberaman extra care site

The major extra care development at Club Street continues to progress well, as Linc, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and F1 Modular Ltd work together to deliver 40 state-of-the-art apartments for older people in the region. Blaengwawr Primary is located next to the extra care site, and it is intended that the school and the extra care facility will maintain close links – including the joint use of a garden area.

Linc and F1 Modular Ltd jointly organised a poster competition following a health and safety talk to pupils in February 2019. Entries were received from 113 pupils in total, and the 10 winners were announced at a special school assembly on May 3 – with each winning pupil winning a gift voucher and certificate.

The winning pupils in the competition, as chosen by Linc, are Avery Grace Hajgato and Jessica Williams (reception class), Harry Hooper and Gwen May (Years 1-2), Lily May Frowen and Bodi Lee Harvey (Years 3-4), Ffion Davies and Amelia Dass (Years 4-5), and Jasmine Hoare and Joel Cartwright (Years 5-6).

On Friday, May 17, the winning designs were put on display at the site – where they will remain for the rest of the development. The event was attended by the 10 pupils, their headteacher Imogen Baker, representatives from Linc, F1 Modular and Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor Cllr Linda de Vet – who is also Chair of Governors at the school and the Local Elected Member.

The scheme uses modern methods of construction where volumetric modules are assembled in a precision-controlled factory environment. The modules, which make up the development, are built at F1 Modular’s base in Powys and then delivered to the site in Aberaman. 

Councillor Linda de Vet, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: 

“I was delighted to attend Friday’s event at the Aberaman Extra Care site, to congratulate the talented young artists on winning the poster competition – and to see their excellent designs put on display for the duration of the development. The Extra Care facility will become an important landmark within the local community, and will maintain very close ties with the school.”

We are looking forward to helping the school with their pond and planters, and we will be working with them to plan our new multi-generational garden when residents move into their new homes.”
